Panerai Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT
Panerai fitted their Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT (PAM00233) with a movement manufactured completely by the Italian watchmaker. The P.2002 hand-wound movement got its name from the year that Panerai began to make their own movements at Officine Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
The hand-wound movement pays homage to the past when most timepieces were hand-wound. However, this also affords the Paneristi the ability to enjoy an amazing 8 days of power reserve. This caliber contains 21 jewels, 245 components, a Glucydur balance, and a Parachoc anti-shock device to keep the time in synch in spite of athletic activity.
The timepiece includes an hour and minutes hand, and small seconds dial at 9 o’clock. It has a GMT function with its big 24-hour hand. As if that weren’t enough complication, this timepiece includes a date aperture at 3 o’clock and an amazing 8-day power reserve indicator at the 6 o’clock position.
The 44mm cushion case of this timepiece is constructed using brushed 316L stainless steel and built for comfort. It features the signature crown guard and domed crystal characteristic of the Luminor model with a power reserve indicator on the highly legible dial.
The Panerai Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT includes not only a sapphire crystal on the main watch area, but it also offers an amazing see-through sapphire crystal on the back so that the Panerai owner can view the beauty of the mechanical caliber when it is not on the wrist.
This timepiece allows you to reset the seconds easily with the crown. Although the Panerai Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT comes with a leather band made from Black Alligator hide and matching black stitching, Panerai does offer 2 alternative rubberized straps and buckles.
The Panerai Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT is beautiful during the day, but it is also exceptional at night. The luminescent hour markers and numerals at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions give the timepiece an incredible green glow in the dark. Add to this, the small second’s hands, minute and hour hands, and even the 24-hour hand and power reserve are also filled with the green luminescence that makes this timepiece useful both day and night.
One of the key components that every Panerai Luminor owner loves is the fact that the winding crown is protected by the patented locking mechanism that Panerai popularized many years ago. This not only protects the crown from accidental movement, but it protects the crown from getting banked or hurt during the normal wear and tear of using this timepiece. It further protects the timepiece with waterproofness even down to 100 meters of depth.
This model features a quick change lug meant to make it easier to replace the strap with an aftermarket replacement strap. Rubber B offers several style options for this and other Panerai models. The replacement band that fits the PAM00233 is shown in the photos below.
