The Patek Philippe reference 5135R Gondolo Calendario appeared in 2004 and has the first tonneau shaped timepiece to have the annual calendar with aperture windows at the 10.3, 12 and 1.7 o’clock positions.  This gorgeous timepiece is made with rose gold and has Dauphine hands.

It has an brown leather band with an exquisite gold Patek deployant clasp.  The case is 51mm x 38mm.  It is powered by a caliber 325/205 with 34 jewels a 21k gold rotor and a Gyromax balance.  It has fausses cotes decoration throughout.  It is currently priced under $50,000.

There were several notable Patek Annual Calendar timepieces that followed.  The Reference 5146J came out in 2005 and looks similar to the original 5036 but comes with a leather band.  Patek released the first Ladies’ Annual Calendar timepiece in 2005 with the Reference 4936G.  In 2007 Patek presented the first Annual Calendar with a minute repeater Grand Complication with the reference 5033P.

Patek decided to add the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar to the Nautilus 5726A in 2012.  This is the most recognized and heralded Patek timepieces, and now with the Annual Calendar  complication it almost makes this the ultimate timepiece.  It is powered by the 324 S QA LU 24H/303 caliber which features 347 parts and 34 jewels.  It has a 45 hour power reserve, 21K gold central rotor, a Gyromax Balance, Spiromax balance spring, and beats at 4 Hz.

The annual calendar features are surprisingly compact with the central dial at 6 o’clock featuring both the 24 hour gmt display, combined with the date aperture and moon phases together.  It is elegantly assembled without looking overly busy.

The Day of week and Month are abbreviated to a 3 character and is tastefully displayed just under the 12 o’clock hour marker and the Patek Philippe lettering.  The Nautilus is a spectacularly designed timepiece with hour markers and luminescent fully realized with the sole exception at the 6 o’clock position.  However, the compact balance provided by this timepiece is exquisite.

The Nautilus line of timepieces are highly sought after.  Although on the Patek site it might be listed for just under $50,000, it is likely it would cost much more to acquire this timepiece.  It contains the exquisite styling you would expect to find in a luxury sports watch including the embossed dial, and the hand-stitched matt black alligator strap with fold-over clasp.  This timepiece is significantly thicker than some of the smaller versions that led up to this annual calendar with a case size of 40.5mm.  It is also water resistant to 360 feet.
