As the leading producer of custom rubber watch straps, Rubber B consistently strives to innovate and improve on our existing product catalog, which features custom rubber watch straps for watches from leading watchmakers around the globe, such as Rolex, Tudor, Panerai, and Audemars Piguet.
One of the great things about being involved in the world of horology is the spirit of charity that can often be found among watchmaking companies both big and small. Even the founder of Rolex, Hans Wilsdorf, is known for giving away millions of dollars every year to charities around the world via his trust.
Another way that horological companies are helping to give back is to donate money towards conservation efforts, especially ones where the primary objective is to help animals. Many parts that are necessary for the production of watches are sourced from countries where poaching is a major source of illicit income, meaning that for several of these companies, this is a cause that hits close to home.
Rubber B is certainly contributing to those efforts in our own way, and we will certainly explore that in the second part of this article, as well as introducing you to our brand new camo Royal Oak rubber watch bands. We would like to begin though, by focusing on a special endeavor by the watchmaker Hublot that we believe is worthy of both attention and praise.
How is Hublot Helping Conservation Efforts Around the World?
Earlier this year, Hublot announced that they were releasing a special, limited to only a 100 piece collection of their Big Bang UNICO SORAI timepieces. This is a significant step in their continued partnership with Save Our Rhino Africa India (SORAI), which began a year and a half ago and focuses on rhino conservation in both India and the greater African continent.
The majority of the proceeds of these watches will go to benefit Care for Wild, an expansive rhino sanctuary in South Africa that is being funded, in part, by SORAI.
Why is it So Important to Protect the Rhinos in Africa and India?
The rhinos in these areas of the world are particularly vulnerable to poachers, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in less law enforcement being on-site to combat the separate epidemic of poaching.
These rhinos are often hunted for their horns, which are then ground down and used in powders or as part of soups in herbal medicine. This is highly illegal, and has also resulted in several species of rhinos being moved towards the top of the endangered species list. As long as there is a demand for this type of product, poachers will always be there to capitalize on it, and any efforts being made to combat this type of highly immoral, and frankly, barbaric activity should be applauded.m
How Much Money Will Hublot Be Donating to Care For Wild?
While Hublot has not specified exactly, in terms of a dollar amount or percentage of sales, how much of the proceeds will be donated to the animal sanctuary, they have explicitly stated that it will be a majority of the profits and that these funds have been solely marked for the protection and daily care of these rhinos, especially baby rhinos in particular.
How Can You Help Protect The Rhinos?
Any donation to these organizations is helpful and goes a long way, so if you are interested in learning more about SORAI’s work and how they are helping to assist global conservation efforts, you can visit their website, which can be found here.
How Is Rubber B Contributing to the Cause of Conservation?
While Rubber B is happy to spotlight Hublot and their excellent work towards helping to protect African and Indian rhinos, Rubber B has also been helping to contribute to conservation efforts as well. In fact, if you are familiar with our product line and how our straps are made, it would be fair to say that we have been aiding conservation efforts since our founding.
All of Rubber B’s Straps Are Cruelty-Free and Made From 100% Vulcanized Rubber
No matter which rubber watch strap you choose to purchase, you can always be certain that no animal products are ever used in the making of any of our watch straps. We are immensely proud of this, because we know that many watch collectors love the look and feel of leather, but do not want to purchase a product that requires harming an animal to produce it.
Rubber B Watch Straps Offer a Thoughtful Alternative
We offer several different product lines, and we are equally proud of all of them, but our Swimskin™ line of watch straps offers the visual maturity and texture of leather while still only being produced with vulcanized rubber. As a company, we are especially happy to be able to produce a product that helps contribute to the well-being of animals in any way possible.
Rubber B is Proud to Now Offer Camo Watch Straps for the New Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
Rubber B’s newest line of watch straps is a series of “camo” style watch straps for Audemars Piguet’s camouflage-themed “combat” watches, which were released back in 2019.
