The Rolex Submariner watchbands by Rubber B are the best made custom bands for the world’s most recognizable Rolex. The Rolex Submariner carved out a path in horological history that created a trend that could only be capped by the feats of the character that wore one – James Bod himself. It is well known that the Submariner was the model that the early James Bond wore on screen as his chosen timepiece.
It is only natural that a naval commander such as Bond would choose the first timepiece capable of submerging to 100 meters. Even without the ability to cut through metal with lasers, deflect bullets with electromagnetic charges, and saw through chains with an actually fully working circular saw, the Submariner is a powerful timepiece – capable of surviving in water, snow, sun and sand with the greatest of ease.
Rolex released the Submariner in 1954. It became the first diver’s watch. It is a “tool” watch of the highest caliber and is highly sought after by collectors and first time Rolex owners all over the world. This has driven up the value of these timepieces in recent years.
However, Rolex never rested on its success. It continued to develop the Submariner. It added a cyclops lens over the date window. Then, Rolex increased water resistance to 1000 feet in the Submariner. It added 4000 feet of resistance in the Sea-Dweller model back in 1967, and 12,800 feet of resistance in the Deepsea model in 2008. Arguably the greatest Hollywood director to ever film in the Ocean, James Cameron, was challenged to film his dive to the deepest trenches of the Marianna Trench with great success and the Rolex Deepsea thrived.
The Submariner has seen subtle changes over the years. Rolex added a Sapphire crystal to add scratch resistance to its already robust case. The case is built out of solid materials. The classic stainless steel was replaced by 904L Oystersteel – an Alloy found in top Aerospace manufacturing because of its anticorrosion features. Rolex eventually released a yellow gold, white gold, and two-tone gold (aka Rolesor) models. The timepiece comes in both a model with a date window and a no-date option, however the no-date submariner only comes in stainless steel.
Rolex has consistently made other improvements as well. The lume on the hour markers is now a long-lasting blue glowing Chromalight display, which is even more visible due to the larger hour markers and hands on its wider dial in the larger 41mm case. The corrosion resistant ceramic bezel is virtually scratchproof and also unaffected by ultraviolet rays, seawater or chlorinated pool water.
The Oyster bracelet also saw great improvements for divers. Rolex released the Glidelock extension system and safety clasp that allows you to easily put the timepiece on top of a diving suit and easily adjust the bracelet for size, while locking it into place to protect it from being lost at sea.
Crown guards were added to protect the winding crown. The new caliber 3235 is the most powerful movement made by Rolex today. This in-house movement has a Paramagnetic blue parachrom hairspring oscillator and high performance Paraflex shock absorbers. More importantly it has a 70-hour power reserve that eclipses the previous caliber in efficiency, reliability, durability and accuracy. This is the reason why Rolex dubbed the new Submariner a “Superlative Chronometer.”
Popular Submariners and the Bands that Embellish them
The above Submariner is a classic green bezel Submariner. Collectors named it the “Hulk” after the Marvel comic superhero. This Submariner comes with a black dial. Rolex also makes a matching green dial model as well.
Rubber B compliments the “Hulk” with its green classic band pictured above. This model would look spectacular with either the green band or the black band. It supports the original Rolex clasp, and it uses blocked integration to create a tight motionless fit to the Submariner case.
This model is built with a stunning blue bezel. It has a two-tone yellow gold and stainless steel case. It has a blue dial, making the white luminous hour markers pop with dazzling contrast. Rolex surrounded the hour markers on this Submariner with 18 karat yellow gold. This protects the hour markers from bleeding.
The blue Rubber B watchband completes the package on this timeless timepiece. Rubber B bands are made from the finest vulcanized rubber and the blue color in the above band (and the green in the green band above) are completely infused in the rubber making process. Therefore, there is no ink bleed or paint to wear or chip off. This means that these bands are built to last and will keep up with your athletic activities wherever they take you.
