Patek Philippe 5980 updated its entire Nautilus collection in 2006 on the occasion of its 30th anniversary. Each timepiece was scaled up with new models. The Patek Philippe 5980R is crafted with 18k rose gold with a touch of copper which gives the metal a darker red hue than traditional rose gold, for a more masculine look. The brown dial has an embossed texture and luminescent hour markers surrounded by rose gold appliques. Matching rose gold cuff links with embossed texture exist for the 5980R with reference 205.9057R5-011.
The Patek Philippe 5980R has baton-style luminescent hands–also in rose gold. The dual subsidiary counter dial at 6 o’clock contains a white hour counter hand and a red minute counter. This dial contains a 60-minute counter (counts the elapsed minutes on two concentric scales from 0 to 30 in black and from 30 to 60 in red) and a 12-hour counter. It has a quick-action date window at 3 o’clock.
The case has a 44 mm diameter from 9 to 3 o’clock and 40.5 mm from 10 to 4 o’clock. It is 12.2 mm in height. At 2 o’clock there is a chronograph start and stop pusher. The chronograph hand reset and flyback pusher is located at 4 o’clock.
The Patek Philippe 5980R is powered by a self-winding caliber CH 28-520 C chronograph movement. It has an impressive 55-hour power reserve. The sapphire crystal and screw-down crown help support a water resistance to 400 feet.
