The Rolex Sky-Dweller is one of the most awe-inspiring Rolex timepieces. The black dial with white gold Arabic numerals may seem like enough beauty for one watch alone. Yet, Rolex pulled out all the stops and created a 42mm fluted command bezel and folding Oysterlock clasp with Easylink 5mm comfort extension link – both in 18k white gold.
Besides the standard hour, minute and second hands, there is a 24 hour display in the second disc providing GMT second time zone capability with the small red indicator at the top of the disk. A date aperture appears at the 3 o’clock position under a cyclops lens on the sapphire crystal. The most interesting feature is the month display which appears in 12 apertures around the circumference of the dial. This provides an annual calendar function.
This timepiece comes with a black leather strap. It is powered by a 9001 automatic movement which, with the Twinlock double waterproof screw down crown, provides protection to 330 feet. The caliber 9001 was introduced in 2012 and is one of the most complex calibres ever created. It is a certified Swiss Chronometer after having passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. Utilizing 40 jewels and beating with a frequency of 28800 the caliber 9001 provides an outstanding power reserve of 72 hours.
