The Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 Reference PAM351 is a great example of the long tradition of excellence that Panerai has become known for. It contains a similar look to historical pieces including a 44mm case that is reminiscent of Rolex cases in times past. This is not an oddity since Rolex manufactured Panerai timepieces for quite a number of years in the middle part of the 1990’s.
Of course Panerai does have some distinct differences. Panerai’s trademarked locking crown guard is something that is uniquely Paneria. This not only adds a solid look to the timepiece, but also secures and protects the winding crown from accidental damage.
The winding crown is the most fragile piece of a timepiece, and the most important. Panerai knew this and developed the locking nut in order to protect the timepiece from damage when used in battle. Panerai has long been known to be a timepiece made for the Italian navy’s Elite forces.

The Titanium case provides excellent strength and allows the polished bezel to produce a stellar look. The contrasting brushed steel on the rest of the case gives the timepiece a complex look which is subtle and visually appealing.
The hour and minute hands are outlined in yellow gold. This is a unique feature which is not often found on timepieces made from stainless steel. The dial is a tobacco brown and the leather strap is dark chocolate brown. The strap utilizes a tang buckle as its clasp.
This timepiece has a 72 hour power reserve and is resistant to 330 feet of water depth. It has a sandwich dial, which contains 2 layers – a cutout top layer for the Arabic numerals and a secondary layer or disc that has its luminescence. This layered approach provides excellent luminescence while giving it a 3D effect which provides excellent visibility both in daytime and in dark situations.
The back of the case is a beautiful transparent case back. This provides excellent visibility to the Caliber P.9000 movement. The P.9000 was developed entirely by Officine Panerai and is used in many of the Luminor 1950’s and Radiomir models.
The P.9000 is an automatic caliber that beats at a frequency of 28800, and is made with 28 jewels. It has a Glucydur® balance, and an Incabloc® anti-shock device. It is made with197 components. The second hand appears in a small seconds window at the 9 o’clock position. The date aperture appears at 3 o’clock.
The Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 Reference PAM351 is a stunning timepiece made between 2010 and 2020. It isn’t currently available on the Panerai site. However, you can get this gorgeous Panerai for just under $8000.
