Stainless Steel Rolex Submariner lv Date 116610LV

The stainless steel Rolex Submariner lv is perhaps the watchmaker’s most iconic wristwatch model. The prototypical dive watch introduced in the mid-twentieth century, the Sub has changed very little since its introduction to the market and is usually seen with a black dial and bezel. However, the Reference 116610LV shown in the photo above has risen in prominence with Rolex fans since its introduction in 2010. With an unusual color combination, it is an acquired taste for some and a welcomed style evolution for others.

The stainless steel rolex submariner lv configuration, also known as the “Hulk” by enthusiasts, comes in 904L stainless steel with a 40mm Oyster case and brushed Oyster bracelet. The bracelet is fitted with an Oysterlock clasp that comes with their Glidelock extension system. Powered by a 3135 self-winding mechanical movement manufactured in-house, it has a power reserve of 48 hours and a depth rating of 300 meters. The 60-minute graduated bezel rotates unidirectionally with the numerals and graduations coated in platinum.

Like the popular Rolex Daytona 116500LN, the bezel of this Sub is made from Cerachrom, the patented ceramic material the watchmaker uses for their bezel inserts. The hour markers and hands are filled with blue Chromalight luminescence to maintain legibility even underwater. Other innovations featured on this timepiece are the blue Parachrom hairspring in the oscillator of the movement and the Triplock winding crown that seals the case with three layers of protection.

The quality and craftsmanship of the rolex submariner lv is evident, but what had people scratching their heads upon its release is the color combination. We tend to see stainless steel watches with their a black, white or blue bezel and dial combination. The watchmaker has used the color green on yellow gold models, which makes sense based on the analogous characteristics of the colors. The combination of green and the gray tint of the stainless steel case seems odd at first, but once the eye grows accustomed to it, it becomes quite alluring.
