17 Replacement Bands for the Rolex GMT Master II

The Rolex GMT Master II is probably Rolex’s best made watch today and is often seen worn by famous tennis champion Roger Federer.  It is also highly regarded by famed watch collector and music genius John Mayer particularly because of its reasonable price ($9,700 msrp) and exceptional 3285 movement developed entirely by Rolex.

Although it may be difficult to get a Rolex GMT Master II at MSRP prices today due to limited supply and high demand, acquiring this timepiece at any price is guaranteed to impress. The Rolex GMT Master II is one of the most iconic timepieces in the Rolex collection.  The two tone bezel is striking and often imitated.  The bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel is made with two-colors and a Cerachrom insert in ceramic, with molded numerals and graduations.

Rolex GMT Master II Features

Besides the conventional hour, minute and seconds hands, the Rolex GMT Master II features a 24-hour hand to display a second time zone.  This two time-zone feature is one of the key features that makes it a cosmopolitan watch and a timepiece loved by performers, airline pilots and businesspersons alike.

The new GMT Master II is powered by the all new caliber 3285 which was entirely developed and made in-house by Rolex.  It replaced the older caliber 3186 model in 2018 and contains 10 patent applications during its development period. 

Building on a history of precison, the 3285 now features a power reserve of up to 70 hours, up from 50 hours of power reserve on the 3186.  The increased power is due to its new Chronergy escapement which provides 15% better efficiency.  It is made of nickel-phosphorus which is less sensitive to magnetic interference. 

The caliber 3285 also features a day of the month window at 3 o’clock.  It is a certified Swiss certified by COSC chronometer and features a paramagnetic Parachrom hairspring and high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers to resist shocks and magnetic variations.  The 3285 beats with a frequency of 28,800 (4Hz) and has 31 jewels inside.  

It has a 24-hour rotatable bezel and it has an hour hand that can be adjusted forwards or backwards independently of the minute and seconds hands.  This is fantastic for travelers that need to adapt to a new time zone without affecting the precision of their timekeeping.

The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with cyclops lens over the date and triplock triple waterproof screw down winding crown provide 330 feet of water resistance.  The superalloy 904L steel case and oyster bracelet provide strength, resistance to corrosion, a highly polishable surface, and durability to make this Rolex last for many years without fear of leading a sporty lifestyle.

There are several Rolex GMT Master II models offered today.  Although the black dial is the distinctive face type responsible for easy readability and is found on most GMT Master II’s there are a few models like the white gold model which offers both a blue dial and even a silver meteorite dial.

The 18 ct gold hour markers prevent tarnishing and helps preserve the quality of the timepiece for generations.  The luminescent hour markers give the timepiece a highly luminescent watch face to look at both during day and night time activities.  This is especially important for on-stage performers like Mayer or airline pilots that may be traveling or performing at night or in darkness.

There are two bands offered for the GMT Master II.  The Oyster band offers 3 links and has a standard and tool piece look to it.  The Jubilee band though is made with 5 links and is quite exciting.  It has a beautiful look to it and enhances the look with various reflective surfaces giving it a more luxurious look than the Oyster.

The Rolex GMT Master II is known for its 2-tone bezel.  The top shows the night time and the bottom the daytime hours.  This is offered in Black and Blue, Black and Brown, and Blue and Red.  The timepiece is also offered with Everose gold, Oystersteel, white gold, and 2-tone color offering Oystersteel and Everose gold.
