What Is The Relationship Between Ferrari And Rolex And Hublot?

One of the most interesting things about luxury brands, especially in the high fashion space, is that many of them tend to have almost a familial connection to one another, though these relationships are not often well-publicized. For example, did you know that Ralph Lauren, one of the world’s most recognized fashion designers, is a massive collector of luxury cars, especially Ferraris?

“I love cars, I think cars are the ART! I think that clothes are fashion and I think mixing cars and mixing fashion – it’s exciting”

As he mentions in the video, he believes that there is a lot of overlap between the world of fashion and the world of luxury cars. Following that logic, it also stands to reason that another area where there would be this kind of overlap would be between luxury motorsports and luxury timepieces.

And with even a small amount of cursory research, it becomes clear that Ferrari has strong ties, if not officially declared relationships, with two of the most well-known luxury timepiece manufacturers in the world – Rolex and Hublot. Let’s take a couple of moments to further examine the connection that Ferrari has with each of these brands.

What is the Connection Between Ferrari and Rolex?

The connection between Ferrari and Rolex is a truly interesting one, as it goes back several decades – all the way back to the 1960’s, in fact. And though there are a lot of celebrities that own both Ferrari cars and Rolex watches, the celebrity who unofficially brought both of these brands together is an icon in his own right – the late, great, legendary film actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman.

However, even though there are plenty of millionaires who own both Ferraris and Rolexes, some people just prefer to stick with the watches instead. A great example of this is Kevin O’Leary, who used to own a beautiful Mercedes-Benz SUV, but has since switched over to not driving at all because he thinks car ownership is a bad financial investment – his theory is actually pretty fascinating if you have the time to look at it.

The Rolex Daytona was officially released by Rolex in 1963, and it wouldn’t be too long afterward before Mr. Newman was seen being photographed with one. What is interesting to note here is that Paul Newman was also a well-known amateur race car driver, and it is likely that this was the first fusion of high fashion and motorsports to be documented by the media en masse.

Since the mid-1960s, the two brands have maintained an amicable relationship since that time. This culminated in a massive museum exhibit in 2017 at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, which was entitled “Seeing Red.” It displayed 15 red Ferrari cars from over the years and was sponsored by, you guessed it – Rolex.

We’re not sure if the two brands will ever officially collaborate on something, but if they chose to do so, we can only imagine what the sheer elegance and superior craftsmanship of that machine would be like.

What is the Connection Between Ferrari and Hublot?

Though Rolex and Hublot are both premier manufacturers of luxury timepieces, the relationship they have with Ferrari has some significant differences – and may explain why Rolex and Ferrari haven’t officially collaborated in some fashion over the years.

As it stands, Hublot has been Ferrari’s longtime associate whenever the car manufacturer wants to have a watch made that also serves as an official Ferrari tie-in product. This was particularly notable during 2017 – remember the museum exhibition we mentioned in the previous section?

That event was to commemorate Ferrari’s 70th birthday. In order to celebrate, Ferrari asked Hublot to design a special watch for the occasion. Hublot enthusiastically agreed and came up with one of their most stunning designs yet: the Techframe Ferrari 70 Years Tourbillon Chronograph.

The watch was well received by collectors and continues to be popular among both Ferrari collectors and Hublot collectors, ensuring that the two brands will likely work together again in the near future.
